Will Project Suggestions and Ideas

From WillProject

Jump to: navigation, search

This page is intended as collaborative collection of ideas and suggestions for inclusion into the wiki. As such it has a very loose structure, and items will be moved to the more structured pages at a later date. It can also provide a simple "drop off point" where contributors can add notes, suggestions, book/article titles, or anything else potentially useful to the project.

Honourable additions to your list:

Chogyam Trungpa and Michel Foucault.

Trungpa elucidates a benevolent attitiude to be taken toward the world and how this integrates with Will, especially in Training the Mind - though he is a little wet for some tastes.

In his lectures, many of which are available in printed form, Foucault outlines what can be described as a extension of Neitzschean ideas into political spheres. Also his dissection of how society treats the mentally ill and the criminal, as well as societal labelling of sexual perversion, all feed into a perfect illumination of the role of the Willed in modern society. 60.234.139.53 23:27, 24 April 2008 (EDT)

I've recently downloaded Martha Crampton's material on empowerment of the will through life coaching. (http://two.not2.org/psychosynthesis/articles/coach.htm) She reflects on a dream in which she saw a person connected to her life purpose, who stays on track and does not get sidetracked and who is aligned with her higher will so that she moves forward seemingly effortlessly.

Martha Crampton then continues by looking more deeply at establishing a connection with the higher will, and working with the personal will to set goals, priorities and boundaries. Her material has a number of references to relevant literature, and describes how she uses a range of techniques to support development of the will in life coaching.

This material strikes me as a useful link between psychosynthesis and life coaching.

[edit] History of the Will

22 April 2008 - A page for the Annotated Bibliography of the Will has been started. APA-styled citations have been added. Annotations to be added later.

The International Congress of Psychosynthesis in Canada from 11 to 15 September 1998 had the suggestion to "Develop an annotated bibliography of references to the will in historical writings".

[edit] Good Will

e.g. in businessm, in politics, in therapy, in daily relationships

Maybe what is also needed is an analysis of 'The Bad Will': how powerful, skillful Will can be misused to influence people in ways that are not ecologically sound and/or ethically acceptable. Many powerful people, from Aleander the Great to Stalin, Hitler and Mao Zedong are cases in point.

Such an analysis should include the ambiguity, the muddy waters in-between. This is where most of us operate - being not exaclty saintful, but no mass murderers either.

And then there are the long-term consequences of willful behaviour. Take Jesus, for example. In a way, He is the paradigm of Good Will and Transcendental Will in operation. But if one looks impartially at twenty centuries of Christianity, the consequences of Jesus' life and teachings have not always been 'good'. Many individual lives, societies and ecosystems have suffered or have even been destroyed 'in the name of the Lord'.
